woodworking

Gerry had high regard for people who created something – people who “made” things with their hands. And he especially liked woodworking. Here are some of the things he designed and built.

G made this shelving unit for our first Vancouver apartment at 550 Beatty Street in 1987. It made the cross-country trip to our house on Cumberland Street and then here on Lincoln Street.

G made this jewellery box for Judith in the same woods to match her bedroom suite. It was a Christmas gift in early ’90s

Starting in 2001, G transformed our Cumberland Street house. First order was updating the kitchen – removal of 2 windows and construction of a bay window. All permits acquired.
Before and after shot
Kitchen cupboards built by G & he also designed the stained glass windows. Sister Sue Olliver and I made them under duress until he made the pieces to be cut – larger
G installed the pirelli rubber floors on a diagonal. Lots more work but looked terrific. I particularly loved the cabinet doors
G built the radiator covers throughout the house

Media centre designed and built by G in 2007 for new Apartment A at 264 Lincoln Street in Lunenburg
Built in 4 sections bolted together made from mdf. There are 2 drawers for CDs that house G’s extensive music collection

G made 2 side tables to go with Kaare Klint canvas safari chairs brought back from Denmark

Friend Harold Borkin gave G eight black plastic shelf units. He designed & built this storage system to house them

G was gifted a guitar from his friend& luthier, Fred Sheppard. Fred made it specially for G’s large hands. G made this music stand in anticipation of learning to play
